Your golf cart needs a little love and attention to make sure that it’s in top-notch shape for spring and summer driving. Whether you’re heading out to the golf course or for a joy ride around the community, here are some helpful tips for checking out and maintaining your vehicle so it’s ready when you are! If you have any questions, just reach out to the expert staff at our dealership.

Review Your Owner’s Manual

Before you get into the details, you must do a quick visual inspection of your golf cart and take a moment to review your owner’s manual, because it will have some useful information such as the recommended tire pressure. We also suggest that you keep a record of your maintenance and repairs, and the owner’s manual is a good place to do so. While you’re at it, scan the manual to make sure you are aware of the basics. You’d rather not start on your golf cart spring maintenance, and then realize you don’t know what you’re doing or you haven’t got the right tools or parts.

Check Your Tires

Start the season by inspecting your golf cart tires for any signs of wear. Keep an eye for any cracks in the sidewalls and uneven wear in the tread. If they are getting bald, it’s time to replace them. Inspect for any embedded objects and remove them. Before you inflate your tires, check the pressure. If any tire is lower than the others, you might have a slow leak.

Inspect the Battery

If you have a battery-powered golf cart, and even if you have a gas-powered model and just use the battery to get started, keeping the battery in good working order is important. Regular cleaning is an important aspect of battery maintenance. Corrosion can build up and lead to poor performance. Make a solution of baking soda and water, which can be used to clear away the corrosion. If you notice the battery isn't working as it should, a great first place to check is the terminals. Once the posts are cleaned, you will want to lightly grease them.

Keep in mind that overwatering and underwatering the battery are two of the biggest mistakes you can make. Doing either one can damage the battery. Don’t put water in batteries that need to be recharged. Wait until the batteries are fully charged to check the water levels.
