If you’re new to golf cart ownership, you might not be aware of some of the hazards you may face when driving your new cart for the first time. While the vehicle’s controls are fairly easy to get the hang of, it’s not difficult to crash a golf cart—especially if you don’t have much driving experience. To make sure you don’t end up in a sticky situation, we recommend reading over our golf cart driving safety tips below.

Avoid Tough Terrain

In order to avoid damaging sensitive golf course greens or tearing up unpaved paths, many golf carts come with light to moderate tread on their tires. While this low tread makes it possible to travel both on and off-road in your cart, tackling tough terrain such as mud or sand will inevitably lead to you getting stuck. If you’re planning to use your golf cart for off-road activities rather than casual games out on the golf course, you may want to upgrade your tires for a tougher all-terrain set. Otherwise, do your best to avoid muddy or sandy spots altogether.

Watch Out for Rollovers

Because golf carts are such lightweight vehicles, it doesn’t take very much force to tip them over. When driving a golf cart, make sure to avoid leaning too heavily to one side, or piling all of your gear up in one spot in your model’s cargo space. You’ll also want to be careful going up extremely steep inclines, as they can cause your cart to slip or fall backward if you’re not careful.
